No major issues were discovered at the marking centers during inspections and the results are currently being processed and finalized.

“We already had a session with Umalusi, a standardization meeting was held, and we are now currently processing all the data and finalizing the results.”

Despite the 2022 matric class experiencing numerous challenges in the years leading up to their final examinations, the department is confident that the results will be credible.

“We also saw an increase in the number of learners writing exams in 2022, over 920 000 candidates sat for the exams both full-time and part-time,” he said.

He noted that no question papers leaked during the exams and any irregularities that were picked up are currently being investigated and the department is in the process of finalizing a report that will be given to the council for quality assurance in general and further education and training, Umalusi.

Many parents have raised concerns as to whether the late release of results was going to impact students’ admission and registration at universities and colleges.

Responding to concerns, Umalusi spokesperson Biki Lepota, said the date for the release of the results had long been agreed upon and this was to accommodate the changes brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
