The importance of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant cannot be understated after more than 14 million people applied for the grant during December 2021.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) revealed that more than 10 million people were approved for their SRD grant in December. However, more than 3 million individuals who applied for the grant had their applications rejected.

Meaning Of Existing Sassa R350 Grant Status

One of the messages received by those applicants who have been rejected is ‘Existing Sassa Grant’.

This means that the applicant is currently receiving another Sassa grant. The only other grant that SRD grant recipients can receive is a child support grant.

If you believe that Sassa has unfairly rejected their SRD grant application, you can apply for reconsideration via Sassa’s SRD website.

How to Appeal Existing Sassa R350 Grant Status

Visit the SRD Website: https://srd.sassa.gov.za

Step 1: Find the ‘Application for Reconsideration’ tab.

Step 2: Click on where it says ‘click here to apply for reconsideration’.

Step 3: You will be asked to provide your ID number and Mobile number.

Step 4: Follow the prompts to complete the reconsideration of your payment.

It’s important to note that the appeal must be lodged on the Sassa website within 30 days of when you received a rejection status. You must also submit an appeal for every rejected month.
