Nokuthula Mbiko, who is one of the disgruntled parents, said that, in addition to being self-appointed without consultation with the broader community, there has been frequent mismanagement of funds at the school.

The department of basic education in the Western Cape never gave us as parents and the community [an explanation of] what is happening. Why is the principal out? We just have to hear rumours that he is sick whenever he comes to school he’s sick but when he’s outside of the school he is fine so we do not know what is happening.

She also points out that efforts by the current chairperson of the School Governing Body  to confront the acting principal over the alleged mismanagement of funds have been undermined by him.

“The current chairperson of the SGP refused to sign some of the invoices because she could see that there was R79 000 for example and then all of a sudden that 79 is made in R97 000. When she’s questioning all those things she’ll be told she doesn’t have a four-year degree in teaching” She added

Additionally the parents held a meeting with officials from the Western Cape Education Department. She added that the District Inspector has not done enough to address the issue.

The parent have vowed  to continue with their demonstrations until the matter has been properly addressed by the provincial education department.
