In preparation for the exams, the Basic Education Department suggests that learners work through past papers as it will give them a better understanding of which questions to expect in their final exams. Both past paper questions and memos can be found on the DBE website.

Learners are encouraged to make use of mobile notes, mnemonics and mind map to help them study. Mobile notes are great for studying key concepts and easy to make so that you can take them wherever you go.

A mnemonic code is a useful technique for learning information that is difficult to remember. In the code, each work stands for something else for example “Roy G. Biv” for the colours of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet).

Mind maps are helpful tools because they who information that we have learnt in the same way that our brains “see” information. Adding pictures to the mind map will also help in remembering certain concepts.

On the day of the exam, learners should ensure that they have all their necessary stationery, such as pencils, pens, an eraser, a sharpener and a calculator with new batteries. Matriculants will also need their ID card or document, examination admission letter and their stickers with their name and exam number (if applicable).
