The two past schooling years for pupils haven’t been easy, so much changed for the young minds as learning had to continue. Recently, a campaign has been launched to rebuild the basic education sector.

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has dealt with various challenges, from teachers’ salaries taking a knock, to learners adapting to a new way of learning.

The Education Department has worked with political parties, teacher unions, and the Association of School Governing Bodies (SGB) to launched the Quality Learning and Teaching Campaign (QLTC) as means of recovering from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The mission of this campaign is to bring into reality the delivery of quality learning and teaching.

This comes after DBE Minister, Angie Motshekga saw that there is an urgent need to renew the current state of basic education, changing schools into centres of excellence.

In an official government statement that has been recently released, Motshekga excitedly said:

I am glad that finally, we have this opportunity to lay the foundations for a national social compact for basic education.

It has been reported that this campaign has been hands-on in terms of strengthening quality learning and teaching in the course of the Covid-19 outbreak.

The QLTC structures are responsible for monitoring the basic functionality of each school that falls under the guardianship of this structure.

Motshekga said there is a need for a new set of non-negotiables for teachers, parents, and community leaders which forms the backbone of a new basic education social compact the sector seeks to build.
