The SRD grant reconsideration process is completed by individuals whose grant application was rejected by Sassa. Grant applicants have 30 days to appeal their rejected grant statuses in order to access the government relief.

Sassa explained that grant applications made to the agency must be verified. Part of this verification process involves a means test. The means test is in place to assess whether grant applicants are receiving any additional financial support.

The agency says the delay in the reconsideration process is due to contracting banks undertaking to means-test.

“We are doing everything humanly possible to resolve this delay. We appeal for patience and restraint from affected clients while the resolution of the process is accelerated” said Dianne Dunkerley, Executive Manager of Grants Admissions.

Sassa verifies clients eligibility for the SRD grant every month. This means your SRD grant status can change from month to month. You also have to submit appeals for each month your SRD grant application was rejected.

More than 10 million people are currently benefiting from the SRD grant. However, more than 14 million people applied for the relief mechanism. This leaves around 4 million people without crucial financial support.
