The University of the Witwatersrand’s school of education offers a variety of courses, including undergraduate, postgraduate and postgraduate degrees in education. In this article, we will take a look at the entry requirements for the Wits School of Education.
Wits University has 5 faculties which are the Sciences, Commerce, Law, Management, Engineering, Health Sciences and Humanities faculties. The university also has 33 schools and 3000 courses within these faculties.
The Wits School of Education forms part of the university’s faculty of humanities, with the school of education offering a variety of academic programmes which are undergraduate, postgraduate and postgraduate degree programmes.
The school has nine divisions that are devoted to a specific area of study. Some of these divisions include Mathematics, Languages, Science & Technology and Social and Economic studies.

Bachelor of Education: Foundation Phase Teaching (Grades R-3)
- APS 36+
- English Home Language OR First Additional Language Level 5
- Mathematics Level 4 OR Technical Mathematics Level 5
Bachelor of Education in Intermediate Phase Teaching (Grades 4 – 7)
- APS 36+
- English Home Language OR First Additional Language Level 5
- Mathematics Level 4 OR Maths Literacy Level 5 OR Technical Mathematics Level 5
Bachelor of Education in Senior Phase and Further Education and Training (Grade 8-12)
- APS 36+
- English Home Language OR First Additional Language Level 5
Applicants who have APS scores of 31-35 will be put on a waiting list, subject to place availability. It is also important to note that due to limited space in the programme students with higher English results will be given preference.
